John Henry was the son of Jasper and Louamie "Clements" Simmons. He married Dannie Lee Few, daughter of Benjamin Asa and Sarah E. "Sallie" [Tindall] Few. They were the parents of six children: Sam Henry, Jessie Pearl [Nolan], Robert W., Ada Lee [Threadgill], Eugene and Travis.

Funeral services for John Henry Simmons who passed away on August 3rd at his home near Alva were held at the Bethel Baptist Church on Saturday, August 4th, at two o'clock. The Rev. J. B. Middleton conducted the services. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Simmons was born in Calhoun County on March 4, 1875. He was married to Miss Dannie Lee Few who survives. He was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church.

Besides his wife he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Tom Nolan and Mrs. Gid Threadgill, both of Stewart, and four sons, Sam Simmons of Alva, R. W. Simmons of Lepanto, Ark., Eugene Simmons of Sweatman and Travis Simmons of Laurel.

He also leaves one sister, Mrs. George Avery of Eupora.
