Services for Thomas Townsend, 98, of 3904 E Reno, will be at 2 pm Saturday at Bill Merritt Funeral Service with burial in Fairlawn Cemetery. He died Wednesday at a city nursing home.
Townsend was born in Indiana in 1868. He moved to Oklahoma City in 1889. He taught school in the city area and served as clerk on the Sooner (Midwest City) School Board for 25 years.
He was a member of the Farmers Union and a charter member of the Oklahoma County Rural Rotary Club. Townsend was elder emeritus of Kelley Avenue Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred; a daughter; Ruth Townsend, of the home; and two brothers, Dr. Carry W., 629 NE 16, and Jess R., 533 NW 31.
