JOHN C. McVEY

John Calvin McVey, son of John and Sarah McVey, was born Aug. 4, 1880, in Marion county, and passed away Sept. 16, 1960, at the Gardener Nursing Home in Chariton, at the age of 80 years, one month and 12 days.

On Dec. 23, 1903, he was united in marriage to Goldie Jennings. To this union nine children were born: Lester, Roy, Wayne, Ethel Gookin and Edith Gookin, all of Russell; Hazel White of Moulton; and Mary White of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Mabel and Ruth, and by two grandchildren.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and seven children, 18 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Norris Davis of Courtland, N.Y.; two brothers, Will of Humeston and Sam of Newburg, Ore.; three half-brothers, Glen, Cecil and Laurence; two half-sisters, Dollie Mawson of Chariton and Edna Shappell of Knoxville, also many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Woodman Funeral Home Sunday, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m, conducted by the Rev. A. E. Beals. Interment was in the Russell cemetery.
