Since finding the German Christening record I have changed her name on this memorial from Caroline Amelia "Mina" PERSKEY to Charlotte Wilhelmine Caroline PERSICKE . It was suspected that the German spelling for "Perskey" would be different than any of those found in the Hancock Co. records! It was just slightly different.

William and Caroline, came to America on the same vessel and "shortly after landing were married in New York" as stated in the 1910 History of Hancock County Ohio, pg 441 . This marriage information is conflicting as their first child was born in 1852 and their Hancock Co., OH marriage record is dated 13 Dec 1854. Perhaps they lost their NY marriage certificate and married again in Ohio so as to have a record?? Or perhaps daughter Wilhelmina was from an earlier marriage of Caroline or William?

Another gliche in the records was that Wilhelmina was not enumerated with her parents on the 1860 US Census? She would have been just 8 years old in 1860, so she should have been living with her parents? I rationalized she just had been missed for some reason.

On the 1870 US Census enumeration, Wilhelmina was residing in the household of William Winkenwerder and his wife Mary; and her surname was recorded as WINKENWERDER! I rationalized the census taker just assumed she was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Winkenwerder!

Then I found Wilhelmina's marriage record to Martin Burkle, aka Buerkle; her surname is recorded as WINKENWERDER on the marriage record! How does one rationalize this record?!! HELP, The more records I find, the more questions I have; very confused!

All of Wilhelmina's adult children's records report her maiden name as Hennings on marriage and death records . Wilhelmina's "5 Hennings siblings" reported her as a sister in their obituaries? Can anyone help untangle this?

Caroline's maiden name had many varied spellings on the first Hancock County records my research uncovered; early in my research I was not sure if I would ever know the correct spelling of her surname. Finally I found the entry for her son, William J. Hennings, in the 1910 Hancock County History pgs. 441-442, that recorded her maiden name as Perskey. William J.'s death certificate was found, and it recorded her surname Perskey. Records also had many varied first names-- Amelia, Mina, Caroline, and Charlotte.

A summary of the various surname spellings found include
Pesky on her marriage record
Paskey on her "original" find a grave memorial bio
Perskey in the Hancock County History entry for her son William J. Hennings
Perskey on son Wm's death cert.; informant was his dau Rosia Ethel "Roxie" Hennings Kelley
Patsky, Palsky, Perskey and Caskey on her other children's death or marriage records.

Summary of various first names
Mina on her marriage record, 1870 US Census , & 1880 US Census
Amelia P. on the 1860 census
Louise and Caroline were recorded on two of her children's Ohio death records
Charlotte on one of her children's marriage record
Caroline is on her tombstone
Kathern in the 1910 Hancock Co., OH History entry

Census searches have been done to try to find Caroline parents on the 1860 US Census, but nothing has been found. Perhaps her parents arrived after the 1860 census or never immigrated to the USA ? More research is needed. If anyone has information, please contact the creator of this memorial.
