George A. Piper, 84, died Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Sheets, 1625 West Beverley street. He had been in bad health for some time, and was paralyzed three weeks ago.
Mr. Piper was a Confederate veteran. He is survived by one niece, Mrs. Laura Jones, Durham, N.C.
Mr. Piper had been making his home with the Sheets for the past eighteen months. He was a retired farmer and bookkeeper.
Mrs. Piper died about five years ago.
Mr. Piper was a son of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Piper, the former of whom was one of the first merchants to be established here, and among the members who organized Christ Lutheran church in 1858.
Burial will be in Thornrose.
