CWO2 Leonard Maquiling served with the 68th Assault Support Helicopter Company, 52nd Aviation Battalion, 17th Aviation Group, 1st Aviation Brigade. His tour began on 15 January 1971.

He was the pilot of a CH-47B that was on a resupply mission from Pleiku to Cha Rang Valley and An Son, with additional orders to fly down to Cam Rahn Bay.

He attended Lee College prior to his military service. He attended Flight class: 70-33.

He was killed in an air crash aboard a CH-47B (#66-19143) call sign "WARRIOR 143" when the helicopter ran into a heavy rainshower and disappeared near Nha Trang, crashing into the sea.
