Edwy Lycurgus Taylor, Jr was born in Albany, New York the son of Edwy Sr and Elizabeth Ellison Taylor. He graduated from Albany Academy and Yale University (1901). In 1904, Edwy was awarded a Ph.B. in Civil Engineering from Yale. In 1911, he married Helen Very Curtis. The family lived in New Haven, Connecticut and summered in Camden, Maine. They had four children. Edwy served with the Army Engineering Corp in France during World War I. He held many different positions during his lifetime; he taught engineering at the University of Kansas and at Yale, and he worked for various railroads, including the New York, New Haven, & Hartford Railroad. Edwy was an Episcopalian, and he served on the vestry of St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church in New Haven. In 1936, Edwy and Helen built a home of granite in Camden. Hurricane House stands at the top of Chestnut Street, not far from where he is laid to rest in Sea View Cemetery.
