John A. Pitzer

John A. Pitzer, 67, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at his residence in White River Township.

He was born Jan. 15, 1934, in Indianapolis. His parents were John A. and Nellie (Taylor) Pitzer. He married Mary G. (Alvey) Pitzer on Feb. 1, 1959, at Center United Methodist Church in Indianapolis. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Mark A. Pitzer of Greenwood and John P. Pitzer of Beech Grove; three grandchildren, two nieces; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Eva Marschke, Mabel Davee and Mary Hiatt.

He was employed for 43 years by Indianapolis Power and Light in Indianapolis as a multiforeman of the overhead lines department, retiring in 1996.

He was a member of Mount Pleasant Christian Church, where he had served as a deacon and board member. He also had been active in the Center Grove Little League and White River Township Jaycees, where he had served as an officer and had received the Man of the Year award. He had also served as officer of the Indianapolis Power and Light Young Men and Men's Club and Luminarie Organization, and Indianapolis Power and Light Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Pastor Darin Bennett will conduct a service at 10 a.m. Thursday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in White River Township.
