Stuart Cheney Ferris was born in New Haven, Connecticut. He was the third child of Walter Lewis Ferris and Alice Josephine Cheney. He grew up in New Haven and vicinity. Stuart attended Cheshire Academy and Yale University (Class of 1939). In July 1942, he married Angeline Taylor. During World War II, Stuart was an officer with the 266th Field Artillery Battalion, which landed at Normandy and fought across France and Germany. By the end of the war, he achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was decorated with the Bronze Star Medal. Stuart was the proud father of three children. He adored his wife, whom he called “Rosie.” He worked in the insurance industry and retired to Camden, Maine. Stuart loved cars. In fact, he owned well over 50 of them! His wife said it was to better to trade cars than wives!
