William Broeckert, pioneer of Manitowoc County and a resident of Kiel for more than fifty years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Otto F. Reuther, 830 N. Seventh street, Manitowoc, Tuesday morning, after an illness of several years, due to general debility and age. Mr. Broeckert, who was born in Schleswig, Germany, Nov. 17, 1851, came to Manitowoc county at the age of 16 years and located at Kiel where in later years he became prominent, serving in village offices and for three terms was a member of the county board from this village. For thirty-six years he was engaged in the grain business and later engaged in real estate and insurance lines.
A year and one-half ago Mr. Broeckert moved to Manitowoc and made his home with his daughter. Besides his wife Mr. Broeckert is survived by three children, Mrs. Reuther of Manitowoc, Mrs. Bernard Greve and Kuno J. Broeckert and one grandchild, at Mt. Carmel, Ill.
