Daniel C. Carmichael was one of the early justices of the peace of Grainger Co., TN. He was the son of James Carmichael (1769-1857) and Mary Cunningham (1777-1838), of Grainger Co., and the grandson of Daniel Carmichael (1736-1777) and Mary Eaton (1740-1805), of Cumberland Co., PA. He married Prudence Howell in 1826. The couple had six known children: James Thomas; Susan E.; John Howell; Samuel; Daniel Lafayette; and George Woodson. Daniel and Prudence were Baptists. Their son John Howell Carmichael became a noted Baptist preacher and was for a number of years the pastor of New Prospect Baptist Church.
