Vivian was born on April 9, 1914 in Pine Grove, Pennsylvania. She was the third of eleven children born to Philip and Della Martin VanArsdale, who were long time residents of Warren County, Pennsylvania and the Frewsburg, New York area. Vivian graduated from Meadville City Hospital School of Nursing in 1942 with an RN degree. She worked as a registered nurse for several years before marrying Kenneth E. Johnson in 1949. At that time, she became a mother to stepson Kenneth E. Johnson, Jr.
Vivian was a long time resident of Akeley, Pennsylvania and a member of the Cable Hollow Church. In 2001, Vivian moved to Staunton Virginia, to live in her nephews' assisted living home. While there, she became a member of the Waynesboro Seventh day Adventist church.
Vivian loved to do hand work like knitting, crocheting, tatting, sewing, and cooking. Music was very important to her and she enjoyed playing her organ and watching Gaither videos whenever she could.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and stepson, three sisters: Izora Knapp, Orpha Newman, and Catherine Andrews; and five brothers, Phillip, Charles, Kenneth, Perry, and Hial VanArsdale.
Survivors include two brothers, Paul VanArsdale of Buffalo, New York, and Sterl VanArsdale of Frewsburg, New York; and numerous nieces and nephews.
