He was a store clerk as a young man in a store owned by William Weiss and V. Weiss. Then he owned his own store, in connection with Leon R. Levy. He began a business career for himself in 1887, by building two office buildings, the Blanchette Building at Pearl Street and Liberty Avenue, and the building adjoining.
