Ray BARCLAY, Perryton pioneer, dies at age 91.
Ray Milford BARCLAY, aged 91, and one of the county's oldest longtime residents, died Sunday at Senior Village.
Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Full Gospel Church. Rev. Zane Bartel of Lubbock and Troy Barclay officiated.
Burial was in Ochiltree Cemetery, under the direction of Boxwell Brothers.
Mr. BARCLAY was born on October 13, 1893 in Pratt, Kansas, the son of John and Winnie Ola Collier BARCLAY.
He grew up in Carmon, Oklahoma, and moved near old Ochiltree with his family after the death of his mother.
He married Bessie Evelyn FULFER on August 04, 1913 in a buggy by Judge Hanna, in front of the judge's house. The newlyweds lived in a dugout and later moved to old Ochiltree.
There were only three houses standing in the new town of Perryton when the BARCLAY family moved here. They built a two-room dugout on S. Drake and in 1924 bought a house at 405 East Center. He had lived in that same home for some 60 years, until moving with his wife to the Senior Village in November 1984.
For six decades he worked as an auto mechanic and served on the Perryton volunteer fire department from 1926-1971.
Surviving are his wife, Bessie; two daughters, Vinita McCURDY of Perryton and Anna BOYD, of Beaver, Oklahoma; two sons, Roy B (Bunk) BARCLAY and Ernest Davis BARCLAY, both of Perryton; twenty-two grandchildren and fifty-eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
