James Raines changed his name to Blaine (or Blane, the 'i' was dropped.) because his mother had married Abraham Blaine some time after her move to the United States.
James Raines married Jane "Jennie" Rodley June 10, 1878 Chorlton England.

He was working as a car-repairer on the Wabash when he was crushed between two train cars. He was taken to the hospital in St. Louis where he died a few days later.
