Mamie Babinsky – Published Jan 1983
A former Little River businesswoman, Mamie Baxter Babinsky, 88, died January 31 at Emporia's Newman Hospital. Mamie and her husband, Gene Baxter, operated a cafe at Little River for many years.
Funeral services were held Friday at First Congregational Church in Emporia with burial at Bean Cemetery.
Mamie Houlihan, daughter of John and Anna Kroker Houlihan, was born May 24, 1894 in Milwaukee, Wisc. She married Eugene Baxter in Little River in 1910, and he died in 1944. She married Henry W. Babinsky in Emporia in 1951 and had lived there since. She was a member of the First Congregational Church and a 50-year member of OES in Little River. She had lived at the Cottonwood Manor nursing home since 1976.
Survivors include one son, Arthur P. Baxter, Gilroy, Calif.; two grandchildren, Paul Baxter and Jean Baxter Bonesio; and four great-grandchildren. Babinsky died in 1970. One son, Robert Baxter, also died earlier.
Memorial contributions to the First Congregational Church building fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.
