US MARINE CORPS WORLD WAR II
Harold Lee Shaver entered the Marine Corps 14 February, 1944 from Melbourne Iowa. Completed recruit training in the 12th Recruit Training Battalion, MCB San Diego. 12 April, 1944 assigned to HQ Company, Signal Battalion, MCB San Diego, CA. 13-22 April, 1944 on furlough. June, 1944 assigned to the 6th Replacement Draft, MCB Camp Pendleton, CA. 22 July, 1944 embarked USS Barnstable (APA-93) at San Diego for overseas movment. 30 July, 1944 arrived Pearl Harbor based at MCB Camp Catlin.
During August, 1944 assigned to K Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines, 4th Marine Division on Maui. 19 January, 1945 embarked LST-684 at Maui. 22 January, 1945 left Pearl Harbor. 13-16 February, 1945 rehearsals off Tinian. 19 February, 1945 landed on Blue Beach Iwo Jima D-Day and participated in combat operations until Wounded in Action. Evacuated to a USN Hospital on Saipan.
Died of Wounds 24 February, 1945.
Next of Kin: Parents, Mr Noran R and Mrs Myrl H Shaver, Melbourne Iowa.
Initially buried in the 4th Marine Division Cemetery on Saipan.
1949 permanent burial in the Melbourne Memorial Garden Cemetery, New Sharon, Iowa.
