James D. May, Sr.

Mr. James D. May, Sr., age 70, of Mertens, Texas, passed away April 27, 2000. He was born Dec. 20, 1929 in Maypearl, Texas to William Benjamin and Vera Alberta Williams May. He married Odette Minson April 2, 1960. Mr. May was an aviation mechanic in the U.S. Navy. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #3894 in Waxahachie and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association branch #210 since 1964. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and two brothers. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mertens.
Mr. May is survived by his wife, Odette M. May of Mertens; two sons, James May, Jr. of Corsicana and Dwayne May of Mertens; three daughters, Dianna L. Philips and Deborah M. Freeman both of Italy, and Darlene Cato of Dallas; 11 grandsons, 6 granddaughters; two great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; two brothers, William May of Rusk and Aaron May of Mesquite; six sisters, Nancy Peart of White Settlement, Barbara Poston of Woodbury, Sue Waller of White Settlement, Linda Rumble-Douglas of Azle, Evelyn Duncan of Duncanville and Diane Cureton of Azle.
Graveside services with military honors are scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, April 29 at Richland Cemetery near Mertens. The Rev. Matt Wood of First Baptist Church in Mertens officiating.
Arrangements are under the Direction of Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors, Hillsboro, Texas.
