John was the son of Franklin Laffeyette and Lucy "Smith" Donahoo. He married Ida Mae Barnett on October 4, 1914 in Graham County, Kansas at the homestead of his Uncle Lincoln Donahoo. John worked on the railroad in Wymore, Nebraska before coming to Lincoln where he worked as a stationary engineer at the Agricultural College, then at the Lincoln Air Force Base. He passed away as the result of a cerebral hemorrhage. His body was cremated and buried here.
