Elsie L. Read, 87, of Columbus died at 6:40 p.m. Friday, July 31, 1998, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
She was a homemaker.
Funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Parrott and Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville, Ky. Calling will be from noon until service time Tuesday. Burial will be at Brookside Cemetery in Campbellsville, Ky.
Arrangements and private calling are being handled by Norman Funeral Home in Hope.
Mrs. Read was born in Campbellsville, Ky., June 21, 1911, the daughter of Leslie and Nora Pendleton Barnes. She married William Marion Read Sr. He died Dec. 23, 1979.
Survivors include daughters, Jacqueline Crenshaw of Edinburgh, Aileen Collins of North Vernon and Alma Gommel of Columbus; a son, William M. Read Jr. of Columbus; brothers, Leonard, Ivan and Kelsey "Bug" Barnes, all of Campbellsville, Ky., and Charlie Barnes of Louisville, Ky.; sisters, Mae Cox of Chicago, Ruby Jones of Louisville, Ky., and Mildred Rohe of Salem; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Charles E. Read; brothers, Evan, Bill and Garnet Barnes; and sisters, Goldie Sanders and Mary Gilpin.
