Pilot Tribune - Thursday , March 23rd, 2000 - Services for Maxine F. Gunville, 85, Sutherlin, will be held Saturday, March 25, at 11 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Church in Early. Burial will be held in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Maxine passed away Saturday, March II, in a Roseburg Care Center.
Maxine was born on Jan. 12, 1915, in Early, to Frank and Elsie (Bisgrove) Toomer. She grew up
and attended school in Early. On Aug. 13, 1934; she married George J. Gunville. The couple moved to California in the early' 60's and to Oregon in the late 60's. They lived in Winston for a short time and Sutherlin for many years. Maxine was very active in the Sutherlin Senior Center and operated "Maxine's Boutique" which was a resale table to benefit the center. She enjoyed spending time with her handcrafts, dancing and calling square dances, traveling and was the type of person that would lend a helping hand to anyone. Through the years she had been active in the Catholic faith and was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Sutherlin. In recent years, she moved to Roseburg to be close to family.
Maxine was preceded in death by her twin sister, Garlene Cates; and a brother, Melvin Toomer.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, George; her children: Lois Fritz of San Diego. Cal., Lary Gunville, Linda Taylor and Mel Gunville, all of Storm Lake; and Mike Gunville of Roseburg; sisters: Marlyn Hase of Schaller, and Irene Riley of Sac City; 16 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
