Anna L. Fertig was born on May 27, 1898, in Kittson County, Minnesota, to parents David William Fertig (1853-1913) born in Indiana, and Emeline "Emma" Olson (1861-1948), born in Sweden.

Anna was the seventh child in a family of ten children. Her brothers and sisters:
Mamie C. Fertig-Horne (1885-1978)
Jacob Stanton Fertig (1886-1957)
Nancy Dorabelle Fertig-Belcher (1888-1939)
Walter William Fertig (1891-1959)
Ingri Fertig (died in infancy)
Charles Alexander Fertig (1893-1964)
John Laurence Fertig (1896-1942)
Mabel Irene Fertig-Smilanich (1901-1985)and
Ellis Raymond Fertig (1906-1993).

About 1925, Anna married Selmer M. Hansen (1897-1957), born in Minnesota. Selmer was a son of Siverin and Martha Hansen, both born in Norway. Selmer and Anna setted in Kennedy, Kittson, Minnesota where in 1940 they owned and operated a café. and raised their son and daughter.

Anna remained in Minnesota after her husband died in 1957, and both are buried in Greenwood Cemetery.
