Ray Wagaman
Morgantown resident Chester Ray Wagaman died Tuesday, January 26, 1999, at Morgan County Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. He was 77.
Mr. Wagaman was born September 6, 1921, in Morgan County's Jackson Township to Roscoe and Goldie Castner Wagaman.
He had worked for the Indiana State Highway Department for 22 years, retiring in 1986.
After retiring, Mr. Wagaman had mowed lawns and cared for Bethlehem Cemetery in southern John-son County.
He and his son, Randy, had restored and collected John Deere tractors.
Mr. Wagaman was a member of the Brown, Morgan Rush, Johnson and Shelby county Antique Machinery Association and similar organizations in Elnora and Oblong, Illinois.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 27th Infantry Combat Engineers.
Survivors include three daughters, Wilma Jean Reeves of St. James, Missouri, Phyllis A. Wenger of Columbus and Teresa L. Jenkins of Elizabethtown; four sons, Donald Ray Wagaman of Indianapolis, Randy L. Wagaman of Morgantown, Clarence Edward Wagaman of Franklin and William Dale Wagaman of Osceola; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandsons; two sisters, Esther Sisson of Morgantown and Nettie Brummett of Mooresville; and a brother, Roy H. Wagaman of Martinsville.
Mr. Wagaman was preceded in death by two sons, John W. Wagaman and James D. Wagaman; a sister, Thelma I. Brummett; and a brother, Willis E. Wagaman.
The Reverend Stephen Ferran conducted a service Friday, January 29, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
Burial was in Morgan County's Centennial Cemetery.
