Contributor: #48482449 - Alta Advertiser: Mrs. Nels Johansen died at her home in this place on Monday, July 26, 1921, at the age of fifty-one years, eleven months and five days. She had been a sufferer for many months, and death came as a relief to her.
Cecelia Sophia Hansen was born in Ballum, Slesvig on August 20, 1869. She was married to Nels Johansen of Denmark on April 15, 1902. Six children were born to this union, two of whom died in infancy. The four who survive are Hans Johansen of Plankinton,South Dakota, Charles and Anton of Brooke township; and Millie and Mattie who are at home. There are two grand children, Grace and Wesley Johansen.
The family came to this country in 1884 and settled in Alta where they lived for three years. In 1897 they moved to Cherokee and the following year came to Buena Vista county, locating on a farm north of Alta where they lived for nineteen years. In 1910 they moved to Alta and where Mrs. Johansen lived until her death last Monday.
No effort was spared to restore her health but in vain. She suffered patiently and when death came passed away peacefully. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the house. The Presbyterian quartette sang and Rev. W. C. Rowlands and Rev. M. C. Carstensen officiated.
