The following is from the Monroe Enquirer, Feb. 8, 1945, page 1 (microfilm printout of death notice found in Union County Public Library's WWII notebooks)
S-Sgt. Heath Autry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Autry of…Marshville, was killed in action in Germany, November 29, according to a message received by his parents from the War Department.
Heath was 19 years of age and was a graduate of Union school. He entered the service on September 3, 1943…went overseas the following May…
On November 4th, he wrote his parents…, "I received an expert combat badge last night. It isn't very much, but I can say I did get one medal in fighting this war."
Heath was promoted from private to staff sergeant in less than a month after entering the service.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Autry…two sisters, Mrs. Winifred Jenkins and Miss Lessie Autry of the home; two brothers, Coyte of…Marshville and Wade, who is in service at Camp Maxey, Texas.
Heath was a member of Philadelphia Baptist church and had many friends in the community in which he lived. [end of obituary]
