Ben is survived by his wife Helen of Alexandria; four sons, Mark of Minneapolis; Jon and Kurt of Alexandria; and Michael of Long Prairie; one daughter, Mrs. Steven (Katherine) Johnson of Edina; two sisters, Mrs. Gavin (Mary) Work of Seaside, California and Mrs. Art (Emma) Gacke of Adrian, Minnesota. Pallbearers were Clair Springman, Joe Springman, Maynard Sieve, Dennis Sieve, Donald Sieve and Leon Sieve.
Ben was born on October 23, 1910 in Wilmont, Minnesota, the son of August and Caroline Sieve. He spent his first thirty years on the family farm there. He married Helen Burfiend in Ellsworth, Minnesota on December 30, 1941. He was in the armed services from 1941-1945 and after he was discharged, moved to Ellsworth. He and Helen operated Ben's Cafe from 1945 to 1948 after which he owned and operated the Mark Theatre in Ellsworth from 1949 to 1956. He moved to Long Prairie in 1956 where he farmed until opening the Gill Cafe in Long Prairie in 1959. Ben and his family moved to Alexandria in 1967 where he owned and operated the Travelers Inn Restaurant until his retirement in 1972.
Ben was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
