After 25 years with Gamerston and Green Lumber Company, he founded Crestwood Lumber. After 20 years with the lumber company he moved to Live Oak, California.
In 1938 J. Wesley married Helen Jefferys who was killed in a plane crash in 1955. He married again in 1958 to Mary Scott.
