Gabriel Saliba immigrated to the United States in 1914, brought over by his brother Barkett Saliba from Lebanon, which at the time was known as a part of Ottoman Syria in the Ottoman (Turkish) Empire. He became an American citizen and fought in World War I in the United States Army in the 42nd Infantry Division (also known as the "Rainbow Division"). He stayed in France for a short while after the war. During his life, he lived in Ozark, Alabama and Georgetown, Georgia. He never returned to his home country.
