He was born Sept. 4, 1903, in Pierce City, Mo., and received his education in Missouri and California. After working on a ranch in New Mexico for 10 years, Mr. Elbert moved to Rainier in 1948, becoming a farmer and logger. He went to work for Rainier Manufacturing Company in 1951 and worked there until his retirement in 1966.
He is survived by his wife, Vadis Lee, at home; seven sons, Daniel J. Jr. of Beaverton and Louis K., Robert D., Clarence B., William J., Alvin R., and James L., all of Rainier; two daughters, Leona May Dixon of Blaine, Tenn., and Betty J. Nelson of British Columbia; 45 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Office of the Dead will be held at 4 pm Sunday at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Rainier and Requiem Mass will be held at 10 am Monday with Father Edward Alstock officiating. Interment will be at Green Mountain Cemetery, Rainier.
