I know that some folks don't approve of census information placed on these memorials. However, sometimes, it is the only source of information for a family member's name due to the inability to find any other documentation. This is one of those cases.

My great uncle Willie is buried beside his wife (who I thought was his only wife), my great grandmother's sister, Sylvania, who died in 1935.

However, when researching the 1940 census for Tyson, Tattnall Co., GA, Enumeration District 132-1, Militia District, 40, for 05 Apr 1940, page 3 of 30, I located Willie listed as W. H. Cribbs, head, age 63, placing his year of birth in 1877 which coincides with Willie. He is listed with a wife, Ida, age 44, making her date of birth approximately 1896. She is not buried near him, and I had not ever heard of her. So the census is the ONLY record that I have found of her.

Janice thanks for reminding me I haven't updated the Cribbs in a while.

Willie's mother was Laura Samantha Myrick Cribbs, b Aug 1853 and died after the 1880 Census, where she is listed as Laura S. Cribbs, age 26 with the followng children:
Constantine, age 7, Redick H, age 5; William H, age 4, Laura, age 1, Mary Myrick, her mother, age 56, James F. Myrick, her brother, age 19. (Another brother, William, 21, sister-in-law, Sarah L, 22; and nephew, James Jordan, age 7 months, were enumerated after them) followed by Laura's father-in-law, Reddick Cribbs, age 60, his wife Susan (Susannah A. "Susan" Wise), age 62, and granddaughter Susan A, age 5).

A Word about this census: This was previously (due to misinterpreting the handwriting as BC rather than a capital H) listed as Redick BC and William BC instead of how it is listed here. I looked at the index that is provided by Ancestry for those who have (most of the time) accurately interpreted the handwriting. Also, a word of defense here, the Marriage certificate has no initial for William Cribbs marrying Samantha Myrick. She has been found in the 1860 (Samantha), 1870 (as Samantha) and 1880 census as Laura S.
