He was sick several times: in Humboldt, TN; Nashville, TN on December 8-9, 1862; Louisville, Kentucky near the end of December 1862. On October 6, 1863, he was transferred to Veteran Reserve Corps at St. Louis, MO. He was discharged from the service from Company A, 8th Regiment, Veteran Reserve Corps on November 25, 1864 in Chicago, IL at the expiration of his term of service.
By 1870, Carl was married to Guri (born in Norway, immigrated in 1846). He worked as a farmer and they lived in Rock Dell, Olmsted County, MN. They had three children: Louisa (1858), Martin (1860), and Gustav (1870).
