Birth year is approximate.Alfred was married to Nancy Pollard prior to 1859. she was born in SC in 1833. He enlisted Apr 28 1862 in Fayette Co. Ala as Pvt 1, 43d Ala. Inf., C.S.A.; left sick at Tuscaloosa June 5, 1862 at Elk River, TN. Sent to Camp Shore July 20 1863 and then to Camp Douglas Aug 24, 1864. On a roll of prisoners at Camp Douglas; died Dec 20 1864 of pneumonia, buried in block 2 City Cemetery, Chicago, Ill. He had two children: John Jeptha born in 1859 and Barbara Ann born in 1861....(info from: The Billingsley Family in America by H.A Davis).Alfred enlisted in the Confederate States Army on 28 April 1862 in Fayette County, Alabama. He was mustered as a Private in Co. I, 43rd Alabama Infantry. He was captured on 2 July 1863 at Elk River, Tennessee while retreating from Tullahoma. He was received at Camp Douglas in Chicago, Illinois on 22 August 1863. He died while a POW at Camp Douglas on 20 December 1864 of pneumonia. He was originally buried in the Chicago City Cemetery, Block 2, Grave #298 but was exhumed after the war and buried at Oak Woods Cemetery in a mass grave. His surname is spelled BILLINGSLEY on his death record but spelled BILLINGSLY on most of his CMSR entries (compiled military service record).

Alfred is the son of Jeptha Billingsly/Billingsley (1808–1881) and Anna Mariah Randolph (1814–1887). He married Nancy (maiden name unknown) and from this union had one known child: John born about 1859 per 1860 census.
