Elizabeth "Mary" Ernst, a daughter of John and May Ernst, was born in Ashland county, Ohio, July 21, 1851. She moved with her parents to Indiana in the Fall of 1864 and settled at Liberty Center, Wells County, where she was united in marriage with X. M. Johnson, Dec. 22, 1869. To this union was born eight children, seven of which survive her. One with its father preceded the mother to the eternal world. She united with the Baptist church in 1868. For nearly a quarter of a century she was an earnest worker in the church and Sunday school. She departed this life Feb. 11, 1892, aged 40 years, 6 months and 10 days. She leaves a mother, one brother and sister, seven children with a host of neighbors and acquaintances to mourn their loss. The funeral occurred from the Liberty Center Baptist church, Feb. 12, 1892, Rev. J. W. Porter, of Plainfield, Ind. officiating.
