Claudette B. Varkony, 65, of Sciota, passed away at home April 11.

Born July 2, 1943, in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Raymond Van Why and Cathleen (Christman) Van Why Rodgers.

Claudette was raised and lived in the Stroudsburg area, where she built her homestead with former husband, Zsolt Varkony. Claudette was very ambitious and enjoyed learning. She graduated from Stroudsburg High School in 1961, received a B.A. from Churchman's Business School and worked as a real estate appraiser. Her passions were photography, gardening, cooking and, most of all, her children.

Surviving are two daughters, Andrea Gwyn and husband David Gwyn and Tanya Varkony and fiance Paul Cook; two grandchildren, Connor and McKenna Cassady; sister, Cathleen Bush; niece Karen Ross and nephew Stephen Bush and their children.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 16, at First Presbyterian Church, 579 Main St., Stroudsburg, followed by a few words by the Rev. George Taylor at Prospect Cemetery in East Stroudsburg.
