Nancy Ann Agard leGrand Ascione

On December 31,2007, Nancy became our angel surrounded by her family at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor Michigan. Nancy endured a long fight with breast cancer, but is now at peace and in the warm embrace of her beloved father, Dick who passed away in April, 2007.

The former Nancy Agard was the daughter of Beverly Shepard Agard and the late J. Richard Agard. She was born August 13, 1947 in Ithaca, New York. For most of her youth, she lived in the Fall Creek area. Nancy loved to take walks in the Fall Creek area even as an adult, always saying she felt most at home there. She attended Fall Creek Elementary School, Boynton Middle School and she graduated from Ithaca High School in 1965.

Nancy was a gifted pianist. She was a member of several orchestras and choirs in high school. She went on to study music and piano at the University of Michigan. It was there that she met her first husband C. Keith Ie Grand. Together they moved back to Ithaca to become the new owners of Taughannock Farms Inn, which was initially owned by Nancy's grandparents, Maude and Merritt Agard in the 1940's. Nancy was the gracious and beautiful owner of this local landmark for over twenty-five years.

While running the Inn, Nancy was also the mother of her beloved daughters, Laura leGrand of Brooklyn, NY and Alison leGrand, of Phoenix AZ. Nancy and Keith spent many winters in Anna Maria Island Florida, during their time there they home schooled Laura and Alison. They all enjoyed Florida and being together very much.

Though Keith and Nancy parted ways and sold the Inn, Nancy found love back in Ann Arbor with a college friend, Frank Ascione, the Dean of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan. They were married in July 2004 and although they had only a few years together, they felt blessed to have each others love. Frank and Nancy enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and the US.

Nancy was hostess to many friend and faculty parties and she along with every University of Michigan student and alumni, was fanatical about the U of M football team. A normally soft spoken lady literally became a hysterical, screaming fan when her team scored a touchdown ... and even worse when they won a game ... Go Blue!!!

While living in Ann Arbor, even after the first cancer diagnoses, Nancy was extremely busy. She was the Manager of the Ann Arbor Women's City Club; there, she used her hosting and planning knowledge everyday to make the city club a thriving and inviting venue. She also started performing piano concerts for local choruses and musical theater with her dear friend Leslie Austin. Together they formed Ladyfingers, a sparkling and fun-filled musical duo.

Nancy Ascione was so loved by all who had the pleasure to know her. She will be especially missed by her mother, Beverly Agard of Ithaca, her beloved daughters Laura Catherine le Grand and Alison Judith le Grand, her sister and brother-in law Martha Agard /Norman Faiola, her nieces Sarah Beth Ehmann and Wendy Mishel Faiola, add her niece Rev. Vanessa Southern/ Rohit Menezes and baby Lila, Uncle David Shepard and her Aunt Carol Nunn, several cousins and by her step-children Wendy Ascione and Mark Ascione.

Nancy was predeceased by her father, J. Richard Agard, her paternal grandparents Merritt and Maude Agard and maternal grandparents, Howard and Ethel Shepard.

Nancy will forever be in our hearts, loved and adored.
