Mary Lou BREAKEY, 72, of East Jordan, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., in East Jordan. The Rev. Mark J. Molldrem will officiate. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, East Jordan.

She was born May 16, 1927, in Ironton, the daughter of Louis and Eva Mae (BROWN) PETERSON. She had lived in Ironton and Ellsworth before moving to East Jordan in 1936.

On Jan. 12, 1945, she married Thomas BREAKEY Sr., in Hoisington, Kan.

Mary Lou worked at the old Grandvue Hospital in East Jordan, now known as Grandvue Medical Care Facility. She then worked a total of almost 30 years at Boyne Mountain, first as a waitress and later as a bookkeeper in the office.

She was active in the auxiliary of the Rebec-Hosler-Sweet Post No. 227 of the American Legion for many years.

She loved her baking, making the family favorite, homemade long johns and caramel corn with Tom’s help.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas BREAKEY Sr., of East Jordan; two sons, Thomas “Tinker” BREAKEY Jr., of East Jordan, and William “Butch” BREAKEY of East Jordan; one daughter, Debbie (Brad) SWEET, of East Jordan; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Jean PETERSON, of East Jordan; and the family’s dog, “Happy Girl.”

She was preceded in death by her father, Louis PETERSON, in 1977; her mother, Eva Mae PETERSON, in 1995; one brother, Leon PETERSON, in 1984; and one daughter, Patricia “Tricia” EASTERWOOD, in 1999.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. today, Friday, May 5, at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., in East Jordan.

Memorials may be given to East Jordan Firefighters Fund or the East Jordan Ambulance Fund.
