Johannes (John) was born to Joseph and Catharine Dietrick Ferringer. John married Mary Harner in 1823. John and Mary resided in Schuylkill County from at least 1820 until 1832. They were members of the Zion Lutheran Church congregation, also known as Klinger's Church. This was the church in which their three oldest children were baptized. (1)

John Ferringer journeyed from Schuylkill County to Redbank Township, Armstrong County, in 1833 with the family (Clarion County was not formed until 1839). John, with his wife, Mary Magdalena "Molly" (Hanner/Harner) and four children, were part of a large contingent of Ferringers which made the four month journey by wagon train.

John and Mary Magdalene had a total of fourteen children.

The 1850 U.S. Pennsylvania census recorded John living in Redbank, Clarion County, Pennsylvania.

About 1857, John and Mary moved from Redbank to Fern City, Clarion County, about 25 miles from their home in Redbank. The family would remain there for a few years, and then move on to the Cranberry Township area. (1)

The 1860 U.S. Pennsylvania census recorded John as age 57, living in Richland, Venango County, owning $3,000 in Real Estate and $200 in Personal Property. The census stated John's place of birth as Pennsylvania.

In 1870, John and Mary were living in Cranberry Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania. John listed his occupation as "Hotell Keeper."
