Mr. Daniel K. "Shorty" Boatwright, 78, died early Friday morning (May 22, 2009) at Hospice of Golden Isles in Brunswick, GA following a long illness.
He was born May 30, 1930 in Waycross and had resided here most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas W. "Pat" Boatwright and Dora Lena Davis Boatwright; and two sisters, Doris Harris and Mevis McQuaig.
He was retired from Merita Bread Company and served in the United States Army. He was a member of Sweat Memorial Baptist Church and the Pogo Square Dancers.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Virginia Boatwright of Waycross; a daughter, Sherry Campbell (husband Gerald) of Dover, TN; a step-son, Danny Herrin (wife Kelly) of Pensacola, FL; five grandchildren, Madison Campbell, April Forrest (husband J.B.), Christie France (husband John), Danny Herrin, Jr. (wife Christie), Josh Herrin; six great grandchildren, Clarissa, Jordan, MacKayla, Gretchen, Brandon, Mackenzie; two sisters, Tootsie Pittman of Waycross, Winnie Gillespie of Yulee, FL; a brother, Tommy Boatwright (wife Mike) of Durham, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday (May 25, 2009) at Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at Music Funeral Home Sunday night from 6 until 8.
