Lloyd S. Mitchell Jr., of Walterboro, died May 18, 2009.

He was a son of the late Lloyd S. Mitchell Sr., and Ruth Brown Mitchell.

Lloyd graduated from Clemson University in 1951 with a BA Degree in Civil Engineering, and entered the United States Army.

As a member of the Army Corps of Engineers, he was stationed in LeHorne, Italy, and was discharged in 1953 as a First Lieutenant.

Mr. Mitchell returned to Walterboro, and founded the Colleton Tile and Concrete Company, which he owned and operated until his retirement.

He was a lifelong member of St. Jude's Episcopal Church in Walterboro, and was also a member of the Walterboro Elks Lodge #1988 and the Edisto Yacht Club.

Mr. Mitchell was an avid outdoorsman, and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and an unquestionable provider for his family.

He was the husband of the late Mary "Binky" Dwight Mitchell and is survived by three sons, Lloyd S. Mitchell III, and wife Debbie, Richard L. Mitchell, and wife Tina, and Dwight W. Mitchell, and wife Lisa, all of Walterboro; one daughter, Mary Mitchell Till, and husband Boyce, of Orangeburg; one brother, Edward W. Mitchell, of Walterboro; and five grandchildren, Mitch, Jordan, Max, and Megan Mitchell, and McKinley Till.

He was also preceded in death by his brother James W. Mitchell.
