'28 Mar. 1855: John W. Cook killed in Hanover by being run over by a car about 5 o'clock. He died immediately. Spoke these Words, "My God I'm Killed." and died.
2 Apr. 1855.
Fatal accident on Wed. last, Mr. John W. Cook of Menallen Twp., this county, was killed at a railroad depot in Hanover by one of the cars detached from a burden train running over him. He was stranding on the track, while the car detached from the locomotive was Coming down the grade. Either not noticing the approach of the car, or neglecting to avoid it until too late. He was struck & knocked down, the car passing over his body injuring him so severely that he died in a few minutes. Mr. Cook was an active & much respected citizen. He was at Hanover with his team & wagon & was in, at the time, a lively conversation with some by standers. (Star & Sental)
