Death came striking in the dark hours of Tuesday morning, March 11, to claim
Joseph H. Alford, 73, a resident of Franklinton for many years.

Mr. Alford expired of a heart attack at about three o'clock in the morning. He
is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lou Gullatt Alford, a teacher in the Franklinton
High School and a former resident of Simsboro, La., and five children. One
brother, F.F. Alford of Wilmer, La., also survives.

Mr. Alford's children are from the union of Mr. Alford and a first wife, Lizzie,
who died many years ago. They are Mrs. Bill McCain, Mrs. M.H. Bardwell, and
Alton E. Alford, all of Baton Rouge, and Mrs. Chas. Walker and Mrs. Vic Lovett
of Amite.

Joseph H. Alford was born in 1874 in Wilmer, Tangipahoa parish, La. He was a
member of the Little Chappella Baptist church at Vining, La., and a past pastor
of that church. After the death of his first wife, Lizzie, he married Lou
Gullatt in 1927 on June 8.

Services for Mr. Alford were conducted in the Franklinton Baptist Church by Rev.
J.E. Albritton assisted by Rev. Gordon of Amite. Interment was made in the Ellis
Cemetery Wednesday afternoon.
