Donald S Corkhill was Born February 23, 1922 in Janesville, WI. He worked as a lead machinist At the Parker Pen company and was active in the union. He volunteered for the Navy in World War II but was turned down for poor eyesight, subsequently he was drafted into the Army. He served from Dec 16, 1942 through Nov 15, 1945 including 2 years overseas. He was in the Army corps of engineers attached to Patton's third Army. He fought in the battle of the bulge and marched and fought from the coast of France to Germany. He was present at the liberation of at least one Nazi concentration camp. Although he had scars on his left forearm from shrapnel (entry and exit) received in the Ardennes France he never received the purple heart because he never reported it. He did receive the American campaign ribbon, the European African and Middle East campaign ribbon, Good conduct medal and world war II victory medal. He married Pearl Ellis Mar 18, 1943 in Janesville, WI they had 5 children Donald Robert, Barbara Ellen (Weis), Kevin Edward, Callie Ann (Graves) and Shelly Rae (Nienow). He was very close with all his siblings, especially his brother George.
He liked to fish and hunt deer. He was a very outgoing and humorous man. At his funeral besides the normal stuff we told jokes and stories and really that was what he was about, laughing at adversity and everything else...
