Eli F. Maynard enlisted as a private at Sacramento, California, August 29, 1861, and was mustered into Company F, 2nd California Cavalry. He was promoted to sergeant and mustered out at the Presidio of San Francisco September 24, 1864. He re-enlisted at San Francisco January 9, 1865, and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in Company E, 2nd California Cavalry, January 23. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant May 18, 1865, and transferred to Company D on June 8. He was mustered out at Camp Union, Sacramento County, California, May 29, 1866. Eli filed for a Civil War veteran's pension October 7, 1895, and received application No. 1,170,814 and certificate No. 907,017. He was a laborer at Clarksburg, Yolo County, California, when his health failed him and he was admitted to the Sawtelle Soldiers' Home August 6, 1896. He died at the Sawtelle Home of heart disease. Eli F. Maynard was survived by his daughter, Lulu Maynard, of Walnut Grove, Sacramento County, California.
