He was a laborer at Clarksburg, Yolo County, California, when his health failed him and he was admitted to the Sawtelle Soldiers' Home August 6, 1896. He died at the Sawtelle Home of heart disease. Eli F. Maynard was survived by his daughter, Lulu Maynard, of Walnut Grove, Sacramento County, California.
