Leonard was the first child born to Ernest & Nellie Sheldon, he was born a twin, but his brother Bernard, was stillborn. He attended the local country schools and was graduated from Truro High School, Truro, IA in 1949. He enlisted in the Air Force Nov. 28, 1950. He was discharged as Staff Sergeant Nov. 27, 1954.
He was united in marriage and the father of two children.
His first job was with the Cosco Furniture Company, but later went to work for Reliance Electric Company and was there for 39 years. After his retirement, he enjoyed working in lawn and garden. He enjoyed many trips to Gatlinburg, TN with his family. Leonard was a member of the Church of Christ in Freetown.

Leonard L. Sheldon, 78, of Freetown died at 3:12 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2009, at his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Freetown Church of Christ with Larry Tedrow and George Martin officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home in Brownstown. Burial will be at Freetown Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Freetown Church of Christ Building Fund or to the Hospice Fund through Schneck Medical Center Foundation, Seymour.
