JOHN KNOX AYCOCK, 83, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at his home after a brief illness. John was the son of Ruth Harper Aycock and John Ruffin Aycock. He attended the University of the South at Sewanee, received his law degree from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1949, and practiced law for over 50 years. During WWII, he served in the US Navy, in the fighter pilot program. He was Chairman of the Board of World Literature Crusade, served on the Board of Directors of Teen Challenge Memphis and was a faithful member of First Assembly of God Church, Memphis. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Harriet Aycock; survived by his wife of 7 years, Christy Aycock; daughters, Ruth Frizzell, son-in-law, Michael Frizzell of Memphis, Elizabeth Tackett, son-in-law, Zach Tackett of Louisville, Kentucky and grandchildren, Paul Tackett, Rachel Tackett, Elizabeth Frizzell, Joshua Frizzell, Michael Frizzell, and John Austin Frizzell and a host of friends who deeply loved him. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 20, 5-7 p.m. and Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 21 at Memphis Funeral Home on Germantown Parkway. Burial will be in Bethuel Cemetery in Millington. Memorial contributions may be directed to First Assembly of God Church, 8650 Walnut Grove Rd., Cordova, TN 38018.
