Mr. F. L. (Effie) McClure, 83, of Mertens died Sunday, December 1, at a Hillsboro nursing home. He born March 28, 1919, in Lone Oak, the son of Robert and Sally (McGee)
McClure. He was born in Navarro County and lived there until 1952 when he moved to Galveston. In 1976 he moved to Mertens and opened up Mac's Small Engines. He married Mabel Davis in May of 1942, and she preceded him in
death February 18, 1995. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Bernice Stein, on December 29, 1984; six sisters; and five brothers. He was a member of the Frost United Methodist Church. Survivors include: one son,
Steve McClure of Mertens; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, at Richland Cemetery in Mertens with Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Interment was at Richland Cemetery in Mertens.
F.L. lived in Texas City and Galveston with his wife and children. In Galveston, he owned a glass shop. Business was good after hurricanes.
