Mary Loretta Baxter (Green), 87, died May 7, 2009, in Norman. She was born in Norman on
December 21, 1921, to Tom and Emma Green. She graduated from Norman High School. She was
married in June 1943, to Lloyd Baxter.
After marriage and during World War II they worked in the Richmond, California shipyards.
After the war they returned with three other Baxter families to Visalia, California, for several years
before returning to Norman.
Loretta worked several jobs throughout her career starting as a dental hygienist, then worked
as an accountant for McCoy Tree Surgery Company prior to joining the Cleveland County
Courthouse as a county clerk until her retirement.
She was active in the Goodrich Methodist Church. She moved from her home of fifty three
years, on west Vida Way to Arbor House Assisted Living Center in 2005 and lived there until her
death.
Loretta was like many in Norman an avid OU fan. She was known by all who knew her as
always having a sunny outlook.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, on July 21, 2005. Survivors include
her son, Mel Baxter of Alexandria, VA; sister, Lurvene Wynn, of Tomball, TX; grandson, Michael
Baxter, two granddaughters, Kelly and Stacey Baxter, all fo Rockville, MD; sister-in-law, Dean
Green, of Norman; and by many nieces and nephews and their families, from both the Baxter and
Green lineage.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, May 11, 2009, at Havenbrook Funeral
Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Norman I.O.O.F. Cemetery Services are under the
direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
