PALO - James W. McGruder, Jr., 46 of Palo, died April 15 in Ionia Township.

He was born the son of James and Rosemary Marquis McGruder in Puxico, MO. Dec. 16, 1944.

He was graduated from Climax Scotts High School and later entered the U.S. Marine Corps.

He worked at Meijers in Lansing for 23 years.

He was a volunteer fireman in several communities and was a certified Fire Instructor for the State of Michigan.

He was a member of the National Fire Instructors Association.

He was very active in the United Way.

Survivors include his wife, Susan of Palo; one daughter; one step-daughter; two step-sons; three grandchildren; his parents, James and Rosemary McGruder of Scotts; seven brothers; five sisters; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services at First Baptist Church of Palo. Burial in Palo Cemetery.
