At the age of 17 he joined the Marines. He retired after nearly 25 years of service, reaching the rank of GySgt. During his retirement he loved to fish and hunt. Every Thursday he went to Harolds Country Club. He loved spending time with his cockatiel and his two dogs, Sara and Tico.
On October 1 1994 he married Edna Bigley who survives. He is also survived by sisters, Joanne (Roger) Thomas, of Montrose, Colorado, Donna (Bigley) Banks, of Battle Creek, Michigan, Dianna (Starr) Hughey, of Conway, Arkansas, and Susan (Phil Hamilton) Carnell, of Battle Creek, Michigan. As well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Ethel and James Banks; his father and stepmother, Thomas and Violet Bigley; and two sisters, Dolores Moats and Judy (Banks) Warren.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, April 15, at Beaufort National Cemetery with full military honors. Arrangements were handled by Copeland Funeral Service. Memorial donations can be made to the National Stroke Association in David's memory.
