Trudy Maddox went to that big bridge table in the sky on Thursday, April 30, 2009. She suffered a cerebral hemorrhage Dec. 15, 2008 and had been residing at a local care facility since that time.

Gertrude Omega Moore was born Sept. 15, 1918 to Ruby Martin and William Bibb Moore in Tye, TX, where she grew up. At age 13 she began driving and drove herself and other children to school as they attended Abilene High, now Lincoln Middle School, from which she graduated in 1936. While attending classes, she met the love of her life, Ray Arthur Maddox, Jr., and they married April 9, 1939 in the little stone sanctuary of The Church Of The Heavenly Rest, Episcopal. They had two sons, Ray Arthur Maddox, III of Abilene and William (Bill) Leslie Maddox of Austin. Trudy was a former member of the Junior League of Abilene and The Abilene Woman's Club.

Trudy's greatest pleasures in life were her husband, her sons and the game of duplicate bridge. Her proudest achievement was being honored as a Life Master by The American Contract Bridge League in 1977. She counted among her bridge friends: Howard Wilkins, Lefty Thomas, Katherine Payne, Martha House and, of course, Mabel Lillius. More recent bridge partners included Beverly Walker, Sassy Furlow and Daisy Shivers. Trudy also dearly loved her home on Lytle Lake at the old Maddox home place and especially her neighbors Mary and Larry Gill.

After 53 years of marriage, Trudy was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Ray Maddox, Jr. She is survived by her two sons, Ray III of Abilene, Bill of Austin and his wife, Rhonda Wilder Maddox, three granddogs and five grandcats. She is also survived by the family of her sister Maureen: Byron, John and Robbie Bryant and their families, all of Abilene.

Private funeral services were held Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the Maddox family plots in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. Memorials, if so desired, may be given to the Fort Phantom Bridge Unit, 3001 S. 9th, Abilene, TX 79605.
